Dental implant is a titanium device placed in the jaw bone, which acts as an anchor for an artificial tooth or a foundation to allow a removable denture prosthesis to be stable while eating. In addition, this device can help to preserve the remaining bone by allowing the stimulation as previously provided by the natural teeth. 

Once a dental implant is placed, time is allowed for the bone to heal and grow around the implant. In some cases, a temporary replacement tooth can be attached to the implant immediately after it is placed to avoid patient from wearing removable denture, which is often referred as flipper or stayplate.
